This year for the first time Hillmorton entered a girls’ Year 7 / 8 team in to the Pioneer basketball competition coached by Year 13 student Paris Snelleksz. There weren’t enough girls’ teams to play in a separate league so the team was entered in the mixed / boys teams competition.

After starting the season with two losses in close games the girls have practiced hard and are starting to see some great results with four wins in a row! Our first win was a hard-fought battle against Medbury, with the final score 10 – 8 to us.

Last week we had two games in a row. The first game we won against STAC 44 – 10. Due to our high score, the team had to run back to the baseline each time STAC got the ball so fitness became key as the girls did that for more than half the game! The team had a two minute break before some tired girls hit the court again, this time winning against South Intermediate Boys 20 – 8.

This week was another tough battle with the girls having to dig deep as they played a physical and challenging Beckenham team, a great team effort resulted in a 24 – 18 win.

We are so proud of the girls as they are playing really well as a team, supporting and encouraging each other and most importantly having fun.

Unfortunately, not all the team were there for the photo last night.
