As has been the case at every meeting with Cashmere, the game was a tight affair,
played with great heart, excellent sportsmanship and high intensity.  In the first
half Hillmorton scored two unconverted tries.  Both were from individual brilliance
and hard running by Carter and then Kaleb.  Cashmere also scored two converted
tries to go into the half time break with a 4 point lead.  In the second half, Hillmorton scored one of the tries of the season.  After the
forwards provided forward momentum with some hard running and pods working
effectively to get into Cashmere’s 22, quick thinking by Levi saw him offload to
Duke who was running on to it.  Duke beat a player and then threw an outstanding
pass to the fast flying Godwin, who outpaced the defence to score under the posts.  With 7 minutes to go Hillmorton scored another to take the lead at 22-19.  For the
next 6 minutes Hillmorton provided stout defence but at crucial times the team
made a mistake or got penalised which allowed Cashmere to get within 5 metres of
the goal line.  Still Hillmorton kept a desperate Cashmere team out.  But with those
errors it was only a matter of time and Hillmorton’s defence finally cracked on the
hooter for Cashmere to score the winning try.  Oh so close.  As always we would like to thank our supporters, even though with Level 2 your
support is from far a-field.
