Over the weekend Hillmorton’s first ever EVolocity team competed in the National Finals held in Hamilton. EVolocity is a national secondary schools’ competition which sees teams of young men and women race their own specially designed and built electric vehicles. Our team used a recumbent design with rear suspension, cross over gearing and V breaks. The two SLA batteries are slung under the seat to ensure a low centre of gravity for the 24V, 350W power train. The bike boasts a telemetry system which records speed, current and voltage then sent this information via Bluetooth to the drivers display and to a remote server with the readout accessed via the web so the pit crew can see just how the vehicle is performing in real time. The team was an absolute credit to Horomaka both on and off the track, with top 5 placings in 2 of the 4 race events they were competitive and learned so much. The team is already planning improvements for next year…….

Well done to our team members:

– Allan Taylor ( Y12)

– Andre Scheepers ( Y11)

– William Begg ( Y10)

– Jerry Tan ( Y10)
