Dragon Boating
Our new Dragon Boat team began their season in December 2010 and are steadily developing in their paddling skills. Only two of the current team were involved in the 2009/2010 Dragon Boating team so there has been a lot of learning happening for the new-bies!
We were very fortunate to receive a grant from NZCT – NZ Community Trust, to help us purchase uniforms and paddles this year. The students love their new uniforms and represent Hillmorton proudly at their regattas.
An enormous thank you goes to Terry Coyle, who is once again coaching the team and sweeps (steers) for them. Terry gives up a huge amount of his personal time to spend with our students and we are so grateful for his guidance and expertise. Thank you so much Terry, we certainly couldn’t do this without you!
Volleyball
This year for the first time Hillmorton have a team in the Premier League Competition.
The Senior ‘A’ Girls team had to qualify for this league, and are playing in the Premier Reserve Two Grade this Term, with the goal of getting into the Premier Reserve One Grade for the 4th Term. Thanks goes to Kiel Morgan (Year 13) for taking on the role as coach for this team, the girls are relishing having a coach after three years without one.
Student Achievements
Congratulations to Hayden Day (Year 11) who has been selected to represent Canterbury in the Under 16 Boys’ Cricket team!
Wednesday Sport
All students received a letter/permission slip to complete if they wish to play sport on Wednesday, or Monday volleyball. If your child is playing a sport for the school the permission slip and sports fee must be returned before the student can be placed into a team to play.
Please note that the school will only be providing transport to a venue and not return. Parents will need to collect students at the end of games, or they will need to make other arrangements to make their own way home. This is due to the increasing travel costs and we are trying to keep sports fees at a reasonable price. In some cases we will provide return transport, this will be communicated to the students via the weekly sports draw.
