Sports Review 2009
2009 was a relatively successful year for Sport at the school. Several of our top teams competed at the highest level in Canterbury School Sport competitions, and many individuals represented Canterbury in a variety of sports. The introduction of houses this year saw an increase in numbers participating in both the annual school swimming sports and athletics sports, as well as allowing for the increased involvement in a School Cross Country, and Interhouse Touch and Volleyball competitions to be established.
The summer terms were a busy time with several team and individual events taking place. Our students performed well in very competitive events such as the Canterbury Athletics, Swimming, Triathlon, Volleyball and Touch.
Over winter we had a large number of students participating in a range of sports which culminated in our Senior A Netball, Senior Boys’ Football, Tens’ Rugby and Girls’ Hockey all playing in regional tournaments across the country during ‘tournament week’ in Term 3.
This year we also developed a relationship with the team at Canterbury Apparel who have become our official sports uniform supplier. This has allowed us to get a professional look throughout our top teams, and hopefully for all our sports teams in the near future.
With over 350 students participating in Sport throughout the year, there are many people involved in delivering the sports programme who deserve huge thanks for all their dedication and time. To all Staff, Student Coaches and Referees, Parents, Caregivers and Community Members who assisted in all aspects of Hillmorton Sport. “THANK YOU.”
A massive thanks needs to also go out to the following financial supporters of the school sports programme:
- The Southern Trust
- Mainland Foundation
- Air Rescue Services Ltd
- Perry Foundation
- Rotary Club (Christchurch East)
- Phonequip
- STL Linehaul Ltd
