Making Music

Girls With Hera

Hillmorton music students continue to enjoy really positive music mentoring experiences that are the envy of many.

Run in conjunction with the New Zealnd Music Commission, Hillmorton students in recent years have enjoyed workshops with Jason Kerrison from Op Shop and then, they were fortunate to have time with Moana Maniopoto who shared her experiences about song writing and the music industry in New Zealand.

Most recently, two of our budding songstresses had the opportunity to attend a work shop with NZ artists Anna Coddington, Julia Deans from Fur Patrol and Hera. This opportunity to again work with ‘ real life’ performers is really exciting.

COMMANDING the STAGE

SHEILAH WINN

At the recent Sheilah Winn competition Hillmorton was commended for their performance of a scene from “ Midsummer’s Night Dream” and Year 13 student Helene Dupres was identified as a Best Supporting Actor.

Rehearsals are now in full flight as Senior Drama students prepare for their production of Brecht’s
Caucasian Chalk Circle which opens early July.

The production will be staged at Hillmorton High School Hall, 5 - 7 July. The show starts at 7 pm. Tickets will be available at the school office.

Dancing the night away

Dance students pose after having danced the night away at our recent Open Night. Hillmorton is one of a handful of Canterbury schools that offer a full Dance programme at all levels. Dance is an approved subject for University Entrance and is a full NCEA subject. Year 7 students from Halswell have been enjoying extension work in Dance each week at Hillmorton.
