Making Music

The NZ Music Commission’s ‘Musicians Mentoring in Schools Programme’ brings the ‘magic’ and inspiration of people – face to face, sharing their skills in recording, composition and performance, and their knowledge and experience of the music industry, to students and teachers all over New Zealand.

A number of Year 10 music students at Hillmorton have had the privilege to work with Jason Kerrison, ex-student and lead singer/guitarist of the highly successful NZ band “Op Shop”. Two days with Jason has seen some stunning original material being written by the students – all of whom happened to be boys!

The NZMC ‘Musicians in School Programme’ is a joint contract with the Ministry of Education that is running until December 2011.

What a great opportunity! And who knows…… another Hillmorton musician may well be, like Jason, be making it good on the international musical stage. Watch this space!
