Te Wharenui o Mihi Winiata

This impressive facility is unique in the South Island. It incorporates a large teaching space (used for meetings and sleep-over), smaller meeting room, resource storage space, mattress room, office, fully equipped kitchen, and ablution block. The interior is adorned with tukutuku panels, carvings and art panels done by students.

A fully equipped carving shed is used by students and members of the Hillmorton High School community.

In association with the local whānau, the wharenui supports the learning of te reo Māori, Kapahaka, and Māori arts and crafts. There is therefore, the opportunity for all students to appreciate the bi-cultural heritage of our country.
